Garlic Farm RV Park

Garlic Farm RV Park

Because of our job as traveling PTs, sometimes we need to scramble to find housing quickly. That is part of the reason why we bought our trailer back in 2016 and have been living in it ever since.

When we ended up having to move quickly to the South Bay area for a new job, we found Garlic Farm RV Park in Gilroy, California. The central location allowed us to commute to both Salinas and San Jose for different job assignments.

Overall: 3.25

Location: 4/5

View of drive to Monterey from Garlic RV ParkThe Garlic Farm RV Park name is perfect for Gilroy, California since it's world-famous for their Garlic festival. We thought it would smell like garlic all the time which we didn’t mind but it turns out we couldn’t smell it while we were there until the warmer months began.

Gilroy is located about 45 minutes from Monterey if you want to go to the coast or 30 minutes up to San Jose if you want more of a city vibe. It also is located right on 101 so if you are driving from LA to San Fransisco or back its easy to get to right off the highway.

Gilroy itself is a decent size town but the park itself is on the south side a couple of miles away from the main portion of town or the main shopping areas. It makes for a quick drive but we always prefer to be able to walk places if possible.

Amenities: 3/5

There are restrooms throughout the park (three total for 158 spaces). They are not the nicest restrooms but they will do if you have to go. They also have showers in each restroom which again is not the most updated shower but it will do if you need it.

View of Gilroy near Garlic Farm RV parkThe park also has a pool (which was cold when we were there due to the time of year) as well as a hot tub which is something we always love having. They can get mail there for you if you are like us and staying for a little longer.

Their office is open 8-5 on weekdays and Saturday and 9-4 on Sundays. There is a basic exercise room and a common room. The TV and pool table are great for hanging out in a bigger space than your trailer for a little while.

They do have wifi but we found it largely unreliable and often hot spotted our phones to get reliable internet. Our phones had good service and worked well where we were as well.

Overall we liked that they had all the above amenities but wish some of them would have been updated (bathrooms and showers) or open for more hours (common room and exercise room) to allow us to use it more.

Price: 3.5/5

The monthly price for a back in space was $750. The space we got was very small (but then again so are we!). The larger spaces will cost more (up to $900 a month). Their daily rates are $50/day and weekly is $300/week.

The best value comes from the monthly price but even the weekly rate gives a pretty steep discount on their daily rate. Try to stay at this park a week or more to get a better deal. Our commute to work from Garlic Farm RV Park

Spaces: 2.5/5

Like we mentioned above, our space was small. Probably wouldn’t accommodate any slide outs and with our car parked in front of the trailer we were filling up the space completely. The reason we got that spot though is because of how tiny we are so it’s hard to hold that against them.

Their spaces are very close together no matter which site you have. They do have pull-through spaces that fit larger RV’s but even those are very close.

You often have to parallel park your car in front or behind your trailer to fit it which can have your car hanging into the road. Their spaces are paved but slightly sloped at different spots depending on what spot you are in.

If you have a tiny trailer like us, this place is good for you. But if you have something bigger with slide-outs or anything like that, you will likely feel very tight and constricted in this park.

Overall: 3.25

While the spaces are small and there are a lot of permanent residents in the park. It was the perfect settling place for us for a couple of months.

The location has a lot to offer. All of the towns nearby are great vacation or working spots.
