Spending the Perfect Morning in Seattle

We mentioned in an Instagram post a while back that we have a fun little tradition on how we spend a morning in Seattle. It started back in 2014 the day after our wedding and now a set plan every time we visit.

Instead of some crazy schedule packed with everything Seattle has to offer, it's a simple, more enjoyable way to experience the destination like a local. Our Seattle morning itinerary blends travel and simplicity so you can explore like us.

Wake up Early

Traveler looking out the window at a dark Seattle morningThe first step in our Seattle plans is to wake up early. If you sleep in too late it kind of defeats the whole purpose of an early morning itinerary.

We wake up at 5 am but any time before 8 should do the trick. The idea is to beat the crowds, but also have plenty of time for a chill start to the day.

Remember, this is a nice, slow morning away from the hustle and bustle. It's a chance to enjoy a quiet, relaxing moment for yourself to prepare for the day ahead.

Plan for enough time to get ready without feeling rushed and the chance to get outside before the morning rush. This way you can explore while avoiding the crowds.

There's something about enjoying a destination without being surrounded by strangers. It's a completely different experience that's less stressful and gives you much better photo opportunities.

Pick Up Coffee from the Original Starbucks

We can't expect you to wake up early without a little caffeine incentive. So after your relaxing morning getting ready, head down to the original Starbucks for a quick pick me up.

It's like a coffee run and tourist spot in one. During the day, the line to order can easily extend all the way down the street even though the coffee is the same as any other Starbucks.

But when you go early you don't have to worry about waiting forever. You walk in like any other coffee shop but get the bragging rights of visiting the very first Starbucks ever built.

Grab Breakfast from Le Panier

A few doors down from the Original Starbucks is an amazing bakery called Le Panier. You just picked up a coffee so you might as well complete your breakfast with some fresh baked goods.

Over the years we've tried almost everything and you can't go wrong no matter what you pick. They have both savory and sweet options to satisfy any craving.

If you want to know our ABSOLUTE favorites, Kelsey is obsessed with their croissants while Phil goes for the brioche.

Explore an Empty Pike Market Place

After picking up breakfast, you might as well walk through an empty Pike Place Market. You're right there so why not.

We love shopping at Pikes but it's a completely different experience walking around before most stores open. Even though you can't really buy anything, you get a chance to aimlessly wander without feeling rushed.

It's the perfect opportunity to do some window shopping and get plenty of pictures. You can always stop by another day during business hours for some actual shopping.

Sit down for Breakfast with a View

With drink and baked goods in hand, take a break from exploring to sit down and enjoy the moment. We like going to the harbor steps just a few blocks away from Pikes.

You can sit at a table or the fountain edges which make a perfect bench. It's the perfect setup for a simple breakfast with a view.

We love the sound of the running fountains while looking at the harbor. Along the stairs are hanging lights that really pop in the early morning light.

Since it's early, you might not get the chance to people watch but that's okay. It's so tranquil you'll appreciate the lack of foot traffic and the peace and quiet in a busy city.

Walk Along the Boardwalk

Before heading back in, take the time to walk off breakfast by strolling along the boardwalk. It's a great way to appreciate Seattle's views while also being healthy.

We like to walk down Alaskan way then take the boardwalk to the Seattle Great Wheel. On the way back we take a path through the city so we get a few more views of the tall Seattle skyscrapers.
