Own Less by Going Braless

Own Less by Going Braless

We are always working on being more minimalist and looking into what we need and what we could go without. Our closet is the main area where we thrive as we have less than 100 items.

Having a small wardrobe is easy for Phil (there's a chance he has only 50 items).  However, for Kelsey, it was a little harder to get to 100 items as she loves fashion and loves shoes.

How Minimalists can Own Less by Going BralessWith all of her clothes laid out in front of her Kelsey suddenly had the thought that maybe a bra was an item she could maybe do without or at least minimize. Kelsey realized she could easily own less by going braless.

The decision to be more minimalist by braless living came at a perfect time. There was already a slow build-up of the frustration of having to wear a bra daily.

She thought she HAD to wear a bra, that it was a requirement. But guess what, it’s not. Going without a bra is always an option. Turns out going braless is a great way to not only be more minimalist but be more comfortable.

By deciding that wearing a bra was not a necessity, we could now own less. This now meant fewer clothes and more space in our tiny home. There are so many benefits to the no bra life and it may be the next minimalist step you need.

Re-Evaluate Where a Bra is Needed

Throwing away all of your bras at once may be a minimalist extreme. We realize going 100% braless may not be for everyone but at the very least we could all use bras less often. The first step to the braless life is looking at when you still want to wear a bra and when you could easily go without.

Going out without a bra on weekends and to social events are typically the best places to try bra-free living. There may be times where wearing a bra out adds to the outfit or is needed for sheer tops.

Work may also be a good time to try going braless as long as you still look professional. Kelsey does have a few work shirts where a bra helps keep the outfit more modest so she can pull off going braless in the workplace.

One area where it may be the most difficult to go braless is working out. Since working out is a big part of our lives, Kelsey quickly discovered a bra was needed for runs, but not for lifting.

Decide How Many Bras to Keep

You obviously have options when it comes to bras and the same goes for getting rid of your bras. In fact, there are so many options for going braless that this can be the hardest part of the journey.

Once you find areas you could go braless, you can then decide just how many bras you need to own. We have a feeling most people reading this have well over 10-20 bras just laying around.

We have found that you should own the amount you would typically wear in one week. This way we last a week before going to a laundromat.

Kelsey decided she needed five sports bra, two bras for work and one for going out. This meant she went from 20 bras to eight. That meant 12 more open space for more shoes in her wardrobe (just kidding...but seriously).

Being More Minimalist

Now that you own less by going braless you are officially more minimalist. Going braless is often neglected as a simple way to use less. It may also save you time getting ready in the morning since you will no longer have to search through a bunch of bras you weren't using anyway.

Just remember it's important that you own the amount that YOU use. If you read this post and think you need a bra for every day that's okay, but then you need to make sure you only own what you need.

This is also a good time to make sure you LOVE every bra you own. If there is a bra you own but never wear, then it's time to say goodbye.

Other Benefits to Going Braless

Comfort

The most obvious benefit, at least for me, is just comfort. You have no idea how less restrained you feel. Our ribs need to expand to breathe and sometimes nearby tight fabric makes it feels more difficult than it should.

You'd be amazed at how feeling comfortable can make each day more enjoyable. Many people take for granted how feeling comfortable in what you are wearing can affect other aspects of your life

Confidence

One of the best parts of ditching your bra is the newfound confidence that comes with finally saying enough is enough. There has been this stigma to wearing a bra for so long that we almost forgot we do have a choice.

Who cares if people can tell you are bra-less, you don't need one to look nice. If you can go outside with no bra then you can face anything life has to throw at you.

Why Minimalists Should Go Braless

Kelsey wanted to write this post to get rid of social norms that shouldn't be in existence. Let's make going braless the new trend.

In the end, we just want everyone to feel comfortable with the decisions they make and know that they make decisions for themselves and no one else.

We hope one day we can live in a world where women are not expected to wear bras, but the change needs to come from within. Why should anyone even care about what society is attempting to dictate?

So Kelsey will continue her journey towards braless living and hope others will join in the quest to liberate the ta-ta's.
