Best Performing

This is our bread and butter in our daily Pinterest routine. When we look at making new pins we pull up our analytics and look at top best-performing pins in the last 30 days for both impressions and link clicks.

Once we pull up a few we make two new pins for each top-performing pin. We make one pin with the EXACT same writing but different look and another with the EXACT same look but different writing.

This may seem crazy but for us, it really works. We see it as us giving the people what they want.

Ideas for Pins to Create

Most Views

Sometimes the blogging world seems like holding on to the momentum you currently have and expand it further. When thinking of pins to make, why not make more pins for the most viewed pages on your site?

We look at our site's past week and make pins for posts that had the most views. You can do it for any amount of time including the previous day, week, or even month.

At first, we were worried this would make our Pinterest page too redundant but since we make new looking pins every time we haven't had a problem with it. By making frequent new pins of well-performing posts, it helps keep the view count going all month long.

Low Pin Share Count

We keep a spreadsheet of our posts and Phil set it up so the share counts automatically update. This was life-changing because we were able to track what posts have a high or low share count on Pinterest.

Some pins have a low share count and we want to give them some love. Our spreadsheet is also divided by our categories making it easier to find the lowest post for each category.

By giving each category a new pin for it's lowest shared post, we can hopefully give some attention to these neglected articles. It's important to remember that if a post continues to have a bad share count it may be time to revisit and revamp the post.

Pins on Search Page

In our wonderful blog post spreadsheet, we also keep track of how many of our own pins show up at the top of the search page on Pinterest. This is important because when someone searches "travel partner" we want our post to show up and get the reader's attention.

Most of our posts have at least one pin that shows up when you search the title but we have a few that cannot seem to breakthrough. To try and get a popular pin to show up we will create a pin with similar verbiage and colors to the top pins in that search.

It's important to not copy other pins directly but still keep it your own while taking into consideration what seems to do well with that particular topic. Take what's working and make it better by making it your own!

Last Saved Board

All of your boards should fit in with your site and brand. You may have a favorite topic that you give the most love to but you don't want to completely ignore any area of your site.

One way to make sure you're not neglecting a certain blogging subcategory is to look at your boards and sort then by last saved. Scroll all the way down and make a few pins for the last board on your list.

If you do this several times a week, it will help make sure every board is getting new, fresh material.

Check Your Phone

Kelsey hates having pictures on her phone because she feels like it takes away from a minimalist electronic life. To help get the pictures off her phone without it being a waste she started getting creative and making pins.

It's a great way to get random pictures off the phone while also coming up with new ideas for pins. Look through your phone and see if you can turn any of the random pictures into a pin for one of your posts.

There is also something to be said about making unique pins that has pictures no one else has. Taking pictures from your current camera roll gives you an image no one else has.

List of Ideas

We use Evernote but any type of note pad app on your phone/computer is a great way to write down pin ideas that you can easily look back. This way even if it's five in the morning and the creativity isn't flowing, you don't feel stuck.

Whenever we write a new post or go back and fix a post we typically write down several ideas for better keywords. All of these keywords are also added to our list as possible pin ideas.

Our list of pin ideas is divided by our blog's subcategories to make sure we are going through each and not overloading one topic.

Pictures

Our site is a travel and simplicity blog so even though some of our pins have writing on them, we often see the benefits of just pinning photos. Since we collect a lot of travel photos along our journeys we have plenty of options.

We keep some of our favorite pictures in a computer album. Then upload a few from different locations to Pinterest with no overlapping words. In the description for the pin, we can put more about the post that the pic links too.

If traveling is not part of your niche, uploading just pictures might not be as helpful but we found, for travel locations, it's a great way to make more pins. We make sure the pictures are top quality and represent the travel destination appropriately.

Trends

Recently, Pinterest came out with a "trends" section under analytics. We still need to work with this more, but for now, we give it a glance and see if there is anything trending we have a post about.

Even if our niche doesn't fit in with the current "top trends" you can still search a term such as "travel" and it will give you information on what's trending with that term. This is an easy way to get an idea for a pin while also keeping up with Pinterest.

So next time you're wondering what to pin look back at some of our ideas and hopefully, it will be the motivation that you needed. We like having plenty of options for new pins as it can help your flow and is a great way to get more love for your blog.
